Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.

Synthesis of julolidines via one-pot cascade three component Povarov reaction in the presence of silica sulfuric acid

Babak Kaboudin et al.

Summary: Julolidines were synthesized via a one-pot cascade reaction using silica sulfuric acid as an efficient catalyst under aerobic conditions. The reaction proceeded through imine formation followed by an Aza-Diels-Alder cycloaddition with styrene, providing various julolidine derivatives in good yields under mild and transition metal-free conditions. The catalyst could be recycled and reused multiple times for catalyzing the reaction.

Organocatalytic Strategies for the Development of the Enantioselective Inverse-electron-demand Hetero-Diels-Alder Reaction

Victor Laina-Martin et al.

Summary: Cycloaddition reactions, particularly Diels-Alder reactions, are regarded as powerful methodologies for building carbon-carbon bonds. The inverse-electron-demand hetero-Diels-Alder reactions have been a significant breakthrough for synthesizing heterocyclic compounds. Among them, the organocatalytic enantioselective version has been extensively studied due to its asymmetric construction of diversely functionalized scaffolds under green chemistry conditions.

Effect of Novel Deep Eutectic Solvents on the Endo/Exo Ratio of Diels-Alder Reactions at Room Temperature

Paulo Torres et al.

Summary: The Diels-Alder reaction generates products with different stereochemical configurations, which can often be predicted by the endo rule when the dienophile has a single electron-withdrawing substituent. The use of chiral eutectic solvents has become a novel tool in asymmetric synthesis to improve reaction yields and selectivity, maintaining sustainability in organic synthesis.

Furoic acid and derivatives as atypical dienes in Diels-Alder reactions

Razvan C. Cioc et al.

Summary: The furan Diels-Alder (DA) cycloaddition reaction is an important tool in green chemistry, and the use of 2-furoic acids and their derivatives has been shown to be reactive in Diels-Alder couplings with maleimide dienophiles, benefiting from rate enhancement when water is used as solvent and activation through conversion to carboxylate salts. This approach allows for mild conditions to perform Diels-Alder reactions, even with unreactive dienes, and the obtained DA adducts of furoic acids are versatile in the conversion to various saturated and aromatic carbocyclic products.
