Tuning of HOMO-LUMO localization for achieving thermally activated delayed fluorescence

Rokas Skaisgiris et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that efficient TADF can be achieved by enhancing the localization of HOMO and LUMO in carbazole-pyrimidine compounds. Modifying the carbazole and pyrimidine units weakens HOMO-LUMO communication and minimizes the singlet-triplet energy gap, leading to efficient TADF compounds with remarkable radiative decay rates.

One-Shot Synthesis of Expanded Heterohelicene Exhibiting Narrowband Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence

Susumu Oda et al.

Summary: An expanded heterohelicene consisting of three BN2-embedded [4]helicene subunits has been successfully synthesized through one-shot triple borylation, resulting in a narrowband sky-blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence. The resonance effect of three boron and six nitrogen atoms minimized the singlet-triplet energy gap, enabling rapid reverse intersystem crossing with a high rate constant. The organic light-emitting diode device, used as an emitter, displayed a narrowband emission with a high external quantum efficiency.

Chrysene-Based Azahelicene π-Linker of D-π-D-Type Hole-Transporting Materials for Perovskite Solar Cells

Zefeng Tang et al.

Summary: Chrysene is a common material used to explore new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. In this study, two chrysene-based azahelicenes, BA7 and DA6, were synthesized and characterized, showing potential as hole transport materials for perovskite solar cells. DA6-BMCA exhibited a higher power conversion efficiency compared to BA7-BMCA, possibly due to its unique double helicene-like linker with extended pi-conjugated system.

Peripherally Donor-Installed 7,8-Diaza[5]helicenes as a Platform for Helical Luminophores

Yuta Ikari et al.

Summary: A new family of emissive donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) compounds with unique twisted and helical structures in the solid state has been developed by introducing two electron donors into the 7,8-diaza[5]helicene core. Some of these compounds exhibit mechanochromic luminescence (MCL) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), with a relatively high luminescence dissymmetry factor. Time-resolved spectroscopic analysis reveals thermally activated delayed fluorescence characters of the helicenes, which have been applied to organic light-emitting diodes as emitters.

π-Extended perylene diimide double-heterohelicenes as ambipolar organic semiconductors for broadband circularly polarized light detection

Li Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel approach of skeleton merging was introduced to address the dilemma between strong coupling with circular polarized light and high charge-carrier mobility in high-performance chiral organic semiconducting molecules. The resulting pi-extended double helicene structure exhibits high dissymmetry factor, extended pi-planar system for charge transport properties, near-infrared light absorption, and ambipolar charge transport abilities, enabling high photoresponsivity and external quantum efficiency in both p- and n-type modes under NIR light irradiation. These characteristics allow for high-performance broadband CPL detections up to the NIR spectral region.
