Two-Year Monitoring of PAH in the Soils and Pleurozium schreberi under the Impact of Coal Mining

Evgenia V. Yakovleva et al.

Summary: The study showed a decrease in PAH content in mosses with increasing distance from the coal mine, while PAH content in soils was not affected by distance. The mass fraction of PAH in soils remained stable at different distances from the mine. Additionally, heavy PAH content in soils was high near the mine.

Assessing Approaches of Human Inhalation Exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons: A Review

Xuan Zhang et al.

Summary: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are important organic pollutants widely emitted from human activities, with some being carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic. Inhalation exposure to PAHs can lead to adverse health effects on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, making it crucial to evaluate exposure levels. Evaluation methods include active and passive sampling, time-activity patterns, modeling, and specific research on microenvironmental exposure, all of which are essential for providing accurate data to establish exposure-risk relationships and make scientific recommendations for public health protection.

Comparison of the Air Pollution Mathematical Model of PM10 and Moss Biomonitoring Results in the Tritia Region

Vladislav Svozilik et al.

Summary: This study compared the results of mathematical modeling with moss biomonitoring, showing that moss biomonitoring is a suitable method for verifying mathematical models of air pollution. Bryophytes can capture long-term pollutant deposition, allowing for the identification of real pollutant distribution in the area and specific chemical elements that align with the mathematical model.

The influence of preparation methodology on the concentrations of heavy metals in Pleurozium schreberi moss samples prior to use in active biomonitoring studies

Pawel Swislowski et al.

Summary: Active biomonitoring assesses environmental pollution using indicator species such as mosses. Studies show that the best method for preparing mosses before exposure in active biomonitoring involves averaging and conditioning in demineralised water.
