Two new glucoside derivatives of truxinic and cinnamic acids from Lavandula angustifolia mill

Gulnigar Ablikim et al.

Summary: Phytochemical investigations on Lavandula angustifolia Mill. residues led to the isolation of two new compounds, 4,4' dimethoxy-2,2' di-O-beta-d-glucopyranosyl-truxinate (1) and 2-(beta-d-glucosyloxy)-trans-cinnamic acid butyl ester (2), along with eight known compounds. The structures were confirmed using NMR and HR-ESI-MS techniques, and the compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant and anti-hypoglycaemic activities. Among them, compounds 4 and 5 showed strong antioxidant activities against DPPH, while compound 5 exhibited moderate inhibitory activity against PTP1B.

Evaluation of the diuretic effect of crude ethanol and saponin-rich extracts of Herniaria glabra L. in rats

El Mabrouki Hakim et al.

Summary: The study investigated the diuretic activity of the crude ethanol extract and saponin-rich extract of Herniaria glabra L., finding significant diuretic effects at different doses. The presence of triterpenoid saponins, such as medicagenic acid and oleanolic acid, may be responsible for the diuretic activity of the plant.

The Molecular Aspect of Nephrolithiasis Development

Paulina Wigner et al.

Summary: Urolithiasis is a common urological disease that is on the rise, likely due to changes in diet and lifestyle. Men are more likely to be diagnosed with kidney stones, and factors such as inflammation, oxidant-antioxidant imbalance, and angiogenesis may play crucial roles in the development of nephrolithiasis.

Inventory of Medicinal Plants Used Traditionally to Manage Kidney Diseases in North-Eastern Morocco: Ethnobotanical Fieldwork and Pharmacological Evidence

Noureddine Bencheikh et al.

Summary: In this study, an ethnobotanical survey was conducted in a remote area of North-Eastern Morocco to investigate traditional medicinal plants used to treat kidney diseases. A total of 121 plant species from 57 botanical families were identified, with Asteraceae, Lamiaceae, and Apiaceae being the most represented families. The study found correlations between traditional plant use and well-studied pharmacological evidence, providing valuable insights for potential biologically active compound research.

Functional genomics and metabolomics advance the ethnobotany of the Samoan traditional medicine matalafi

Seeseei Molimau-Samasoni et al.

Summary: The leaf homogenate of Psychotria insularum is commonly used in Samoan traditional medicine for treating various inflammatory conditions, with rutin and nicotiflorin identified as bioactive components with iron-chelating properties. Chemical genomic analyses in baker's yeast helped elucidate the iron homeostasis mechanism, and bioactivity-guided fractionation led to the discovery of the flavonol glycosides. Further research demonstrated their ability to modulate cytokine responses in immune cells, providing insight into the traditional medicine and advancing ethnobotanical methodology.
