Chlorogenic acid abates male reproductive dysfunction in arsenic-exposed mice via attenuation of testicular oxido-inflammatory stress and apoptotic responses

Manal F. El-Khadragy et al.

Summary: Arsenic is a major global environmental pollutant with reproductive toxicity. This study found that chlorogenic acid (CGA) protects against arsenic-induced testicular damage through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties.

Flavonoids improve drought tolerance of maize seedlings by regulating the homeostasis of reactive oxygen species

Baozhu Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of flavonoids in improving maize drought tolerance, using the doi57 mutant and wild-type B73 under drought stress. The results showed that the doi57 mutant exhibited better drought tolerance, growth performance, and higher levels of flavonoids compared to B73. Transcriptome analysis revealed enrichment of genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis in doi57, indicating a potential mechanism for its improved drought tolerance.

Food flavonols: Nutraceuticals with complex health benefits and functionalities

Davide Barreca et al.

Summary: Flavonols are bioactive compounds with health-promoting properties, including antioxidation, cardioprotection, antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer activities. Incorporating flavonols into the human diet is highly recommended for their impressive health benefits, making them excellent nutraceuticals and ingredients for functional food. The metabolization process of flavonols also produces compounds with significant bioactivities, similar to their precursors.

AtMYB12-ExpressingTransgenic Tobacco Increases Resistance to Several Phytopathogens and Aphids

Xiangyu Ding et al.

Summary: The AtMYB12 gene plays a crucial role in regulating tobacco's resistance to various biological stresses, by promoting the production of ROS, H2O2, and NO to enhance the plant's defense mechanisms. Additionally, AtMYB12-expressing transgenic tobacco also shows resistance to fungal pathogens, such as Colletotrichum nicotianae Averna and Alternaria alternate.
