Summary: Research findings suggest that injecting composite spheroids containing gelatin microparticles loaded with transforming growth factor beta 3 and matrilin 3 can promote chondrogenic differentiation of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell spheroids while preventing hypertrophy and terminal differentiation of cells. These composite spheroids induce the release of chondrogenic cytokines that promote regeneration of degenerative chondrocytes in vitro. Injection of these composite spheroids in a rat model of intervertebral disc disease restores chondrogenic properties of the cells and allows for regeneration of chondrogenic tissue in vivo.
