An Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-MicroRNA-26a Feedback Circuit in NAFLD

Haixia Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified a negative feedback loop involving hepatic ER stress and miR-26a in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. MiR-26a induction by ER stress is critical for cells to cope with stress, and its deficiency exacerbates ER stress, lipid accumulation, inflammation and hepatic steatosis. Restoring miR-26a in hepatocytes may serve as a promising therapeutic strategy for NAFLD.

Critical thresholds: key to unlocking the door to the prevention and specific treatments for acute pancreatitis

Savio George Barreto et al.

Summary: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common gastrointestinal disease with no specific treatments. Laboratory-based research is essential for understanding the pathophysiology of AP, but the reasons why only a minority of individuals develop AP and why some develop more severe manifestations remain unanswered questions.

Acute Pancreatitis: A Review

Michael A. Mederos et al.

Summary: Acute pancreatitis is a significant cause of hospital admissions from gastrointestinal diseases in the United States, with proper management involving risk stratification, fluid and nutritional management. Early aggressive fluid resuscitation and enteral nutrition are associated with better outcomes, but the optimal fluid type and rate are still uncertain.

miR-26a attenuates colitis and colitis-associated cancer by targeting the multiple intestinal inflammatory pathways

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: miR-26a suppresses intestinal inflammatory response by reducing NF-kB/STAT3 activation and IL-6 production, and potentially serves as a novel therapeutic target for CAC. NF-kB regulators including TLR3, PTEN, and PKCd are identified as potential targets of miR-26a.

A single-cell type transcriptomics map of human tissues

Max Karlsson et al.

Summary: Advances in molecular profiling have enabled the creation of high-resolution single-cell type maps of human tissues, combining single-cell transcriptomics analysis with spatial antibody-based protein profiling. This technology allows researchers to explore the expression of human protein-coding genes and determine the number of elevated genes in different cell types, facilitating comparisons with bulk transcriptomics data. The analysis reveals distinct expression clusters corresponding to cell types with similar functions within and between organs.
