Genome-wide analyses of smoking behaviors in schizophrenia: Findings from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium

Roseann E. Peterson et al.

Summary: Research shows significant genetic correlations between schizophrenia and smoking behaviors, with distinct genetic variants influencing smoking behaviors among schizophrenia cases. Genetic risk factors for smoking behaviors are shared across schizophrenia and non-schizophrenia populations. Preliminary findings suggest a novel genetic association with cigarettes-smoked-per-day in schizophrenia cases.

GBP2 as a potential prognostic biomarker in pancreatic adenocarcinoma

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that GBP2 was significantly overexpressed in pancreatic adenocarcinoma tissues and its high expression was associated with an advanced T stage and poor overall survival. GBP2 may serve as a potential prognostic biomarker and is related to immune infiltration and the expression of immune checkpoints in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Sex-stratified gene-by-environment genome-wide interaction study of trauma, posttraumatic-stress, and suicidality

Frank R. Wendt et al.

Summary: Epidemiologic studies show a connection between trauma, posttraumatic stress, and increased severity of suicidal behavior. Genetic and environmental interactions play a role in modifying the effects of potentially modifiable traumatic experiences on genetic risk for suicidality.

Copy number variation and neuropsychiatric illness

Elliott Rees et al.

Summary: Copy number variants (CNVs) at specific loci have been identified as important risk factors for several neuropsychiatric disorders, with pleiotropic effects and associations with cognitive impairment and other medical morbidities. While most neuropsychiatric CNVs are multigenic, gene-set analyses have implicated specific genes related to neuropsychiatric disorders. Future whole-genome sequencing studies have the potential to identify novel single-gene CNV associations, providing insights into the pathophysiology underlying these disorders.
