Evaluation of the biological flotation reagent obtained from Paenibacillus amylolyticus in magnetite and phlogopite flotation system

Qing Teng et al.

Summary: Bio-flotation is an environmentally friendly method that uses biological organisms to replace harmful chemicals in processing ores. Results showed that the biological reagent from Paenibacillus amylolyticus effectively separated magnetite and phlogopite, with the best results achieved using bacterial culture at certain growth phases. The separation mechanism was driven by selective adsorption of bacterial cells and metabolic products, leading to higher adsorption density on magnetite surfaces.

Towards fundamentally based heap leaching scale-up

P. J. van Staden et al.

Summary: A procedure for extrapolating laboratory column leaching kinetics for commercial heap leaching design is proposed, utilizing models based on dual-porosity hydrology and chemical reactions during diffusion. Case studies on acid-soluble copper, sulphide-copper, and gold ores were analyzed to develop theoretical relationships for the impact of bulk density and dripper spacing on diffusional path length. The study suggests that compaction of ore particles results in increased tortuosity of diffusion pathways, and the method identifies the maximum dripper spacing that can be used before the impact of bulk density exceeds the impact of dripper spacing on diffusional path length.
