N-Doped porous biocarbon materials derived from soya peptone as efficient electrocatalysts for the ORR

Song Liang et al.

Summary: Exploring economic, scalable, and highly efficient carbon materials for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is crucial for renewable energy conversion and storage technologies. In this study, mesoporous nanocarbon-based materials derived from soya peptone biomass exhibit comparable ORR catalytic performance, excellent stability, and superior methanol tolerance to commercial Pt/C catalyst. The effective chemical activation effect during carbonization contributes to the optimal electrocatalysts' mesoporous structures and high surface area, facilitating fast mass transport, electron transfer, and exposure of abundant active sites.
