A hafnium-based metal-organic framework for the entrapment of molybdenum hexacarbonyl and the light-responsive release of the gasotransmitter carbon monoxide

Andreia F. Silva et al.

Summary: A carbon monoxide-releasing material (CORMA) was prepared by incorporating molybdenum hexacarbonyl into a hafnium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) with UiO-66 architecture. The crystallinity and morphology of the MOF host were not affected by the loading process. Under photoactivation with low-power UV light, the encapsulated hexacarbonyl molecules in the material could release a maximum amount of 0.26 mmol CO per gram.

Incorporation of homogeneous organometallic catalysts into metal-organic frameworks for advanced heterogenization: a review

Sandeep Kumar et al.

Summary: Catalysis is a promising technique in various fields, with heterogeneous catalysts like MOFs being used to convert homogeneous catalysts for improved reusability and selectivity. MOFs, as organic-inorganic hybrid materials, have been developed as candidates for various applications by incorporating homogeneous catalysts into a heterogeneous framework. This new approach combines the properties of both compounds to generate hybrid heterogeneous catalysts with the benefits of both the organometallic compound and the MOFs constituents.

The chemistry and applications of hafnium and cerium(iv) metal-organic frameworks

Zhigang Hu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are formed by the coordination connection of organic linkers to metal clusters, with tunable ligands providing robust molecular porosity. Hafnium (Hf) and tetravalent cerium [Ce(iv)] MOFs have shown promise for practical applications, with a focus on their chemistry, topologies, synthetic strategies, and diverse applications. Future research will explore the development of Hf/Ce-MOFs, including fundamental design, defect engineering, and computational approaches for tailor-made applications.
