Synthesis of hierarchical hollow MIL-53(Al)-NH2 as an adsorbent for removing fluoride: experimental and theoretical perspective

Lei Huang et al.

Summary: MIL-53(Al)-NH2, designed with hierarchical hollow morphology, is an effective adsorbent for fluoride removal with a wide pH range. Experimental and theoretical calculations show that the material has good stability and regenerative capacity using alum as a regenerant. The dominant crystal face and adsorption sites in MIL-53(Al)-NH2 combined well with fluoride ions through density functional theory, offering a promising approach for designing hollow MOFs for contaminant adsorption in wastewater.

Effective and structure-controlled adsorption of tetracycline hydrochloride from aqueous solution by using Fe-based metal-organic frameworks

Zhe Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, three Fe-based MOFs were used as adsorbents to remove TCH, and the adsorption capacity was found to be influenced by their porous properties and open metal sites. Among the MOFs, MIL-101(Fe) with high pore volume, BET surface area and binding energy exhibited excellent TCH adsorption performance. The results provide insights into the surface interactions between MOFs and TCH, which will help in developing efficient MOF-based adsorbents for pollutant removal.

Summary: Perylene diimide (PDI) was introduced into the framework of g-C3N4 to build a polymer with a donor-acceptor structure, optimizing the energy band structure and increasing visible light responsiveness. This modification also led to an increased exposure of reactive sites, resulting in superior performance in the photodegradation of organic pollutants in wastewater treatment.

In-situ prepared MIL-53(Fe)/BiOI photocatalyst for efficient degradation of tetracycline under visible-light driven photo-Fenton system: Investigation of performance and mechanism

Yuhan Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, MIL-53(Fe)/BiOI composites were synthesized and used as photocatalysts in the photo-Fenton system for tetracycline degradation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the efficient separation of electrons and holes, and the main reactive species in the degradation process were identified as h(+) and singlet oxygen. The possible photo-Fenton degradation mechanism was elucidated based on the band structures of MIL-53(Fe) and BiOI, showing promising applications in environmental restoration and protection.

Acid-modulated porous AgI/D-MIL-53(Fe) composites for the removal of antibiotic contaminant

Danni Jiang et al.

Summary: In MOFs-based composites, the use of acid modulators helps to address the agglomeration issue of co-catalyst nanoparticles, providing more loading sites. The novel AgI/D-MIL-53(Fe) composite material demonstrates efficient removal of tetracycline pollutants, outperforming MIL-53(Fe) alone.
