Summary: There have been no reported cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Japan. The real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) assay was used to monitor CWD, showing that CWD is nonexistent in sika deer in Hokkaido and Honshu but they carry a susceptible allele.
