The first record of the genus Lamellibrachia (Siboglinidae) tubeworm along with associated organisms in a chemosynthetic ecosystem from the Indian Ocean: A report from the Cauvery-Mannar Basin

A. Mazumdar et al.

Summary: This study reports the discovery of Lamellibrachia tubeworm and associated chemosynthetic ecosystem from a cold-seep site in the Indian Ocean, showcasing their relationship with high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and coexistence with squat lobsters and Gastropoda. The authigenic carbonate crusts serve as a firm anchor for the tubeworms, and observations of methane hydrate suggest a contribution of deep-seated thermogenic methane.
