Spatiotemporal characteristics of drought in a semi-arid grassland over the past 56 years based on the Standardized Precipitation Index

Wei Li et al.

Summary: This study used precipitation data from the semi-arid steppe region of Inner Mongolian Plateau to analyze drought changes. It found that drought intensity has increased in recent years, with the highest occurrence of drought events in the south-central regions. Light drought mainly occurs in autumn, while the most extreme drought events typically occur in summer.

Modeling drought duration and severity using two-dimensional copula

Muhammad Asif Khan et al.

Summary: The research evaluates the suitability of Copula models and popular probability functions for modeling drought events at meteorological stations in Pakistan. Results show that Gumbel-Hougaard Copula is most suitable for certain stations, with Gamma distribution being the best fit for defining drought duration and severity across all selected stations. The findings provide baseline statistics for policymakers to control the effects of future droughts.
