Conserved Structural Features of Core Oligosaccharides among the Lipopolysaccharides of Respiratory Pathogens from the Genus Bordetella Analyzed Exclusively by NMR Spectroscopy

Karolina Ucieklak et al.

Summary: Bacterial pathogens, such as Bordetellae, display complex carbohydrate molecules on their cell surface, which play a crucial role in host-pathogen interactions. Mammalian respiratory pathogens like B. pertussis and B. holmesii have a significant impact on human health and agriculture. This study suggests that a common element in the structure of lipopolysaccharides from Bordetellae could potentially be used to develop a universal cross-protective vaccine component against infections with different bacteria from the genus Bordetella.
