Original article Profiling elite male 100-m sprint performance: The role of maximum velocity and relative acceleration

Robin Healy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the accuracy of a 4 split time modelling method to generate velocity-time and velocity-distance variables in elite male 100-m sprinters and assess the roles of key sprint parameters in sprint performance. The results showed that the modelled split times and velocities had excellent accuracy and agreement with raw measures.

Timing of Rectus Femoris and Biceps Femoris Muscle Activities in Both Legs at Maximal Running Speed

Gaku Kakehata et al.

Summary: The study found that higher step frequency is correlated with smoother switching of agonist-antagonist muscle activities and earlier activation of the rectus femoris relative to the biceps femoris. To improve sprint performance, athletes and coaches should consider coordination of muscle activities in both legs, not just focusing on muscle activities in one leg.

Novel Insights Into Biarticular Muscle Actions Gained From High-Density Electromyogram

Kohei Watanabe et al.

Summary: Traditionally, it was believed that biarticular muscles exhibit homogeneous neuromuscular activation, but recent studies suggest regional activation may lead to different actions about the joints they span. This finding has important physiological and methodological implications.
