Medical students consulting from home: A qualitative evaluation of a tool for maintaining student exposure to patients during lockdown

Summary: Remote supervision of medical students at home engaging in remote consultations with patients was found to be acceptable and educationally valuable according to the interviews conducted. Different models of implementation were identified based on types of patients and communication platforms used. Practical and educational challenges were recognized, and strategies for addressing them were suggested by interviewees and inferred from data analysis.

The shift was successful in reducing contagion, but also raised concerns about increased clinical risk and the need for adjustments post-pandemic.
