Nuclear IL-33/SMAD signaling axis promotes cancer development in chronic inflammation

Jong Ho Park et al.

Summary: The study reveals that IL-33 plays a critical role in cancer development by activating the SMAD signaling pathway in epithelial cells during chronic inflammation. This involves repressing the expression of Smad6 and upregulating p-SMAD2/3 and p-SMAD1/5. Blocking the TGF-beta/SMAD signaling pathway can inhibit IL-33-induced cell proliferation and epidermal hyperplasia.
