Metal Sulfide Nanoparticles Based Phytolectin Scaffolds Inhibit Vulvovaginal Candidiasis Causing Candida albicans

Jayasankari Senthilganesh et al.

Summary: Vulvovaginal candidiasis is a common infection caused by Candida species, especially Candida albicans. Plant protein-based nano scaffolds were found to effectively mitigate fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans infections. Lectin-functionalized copper sulfide nanoparticles showed lower inhibitory concentrations and synergistic effects with antifungal drugs like micafungin.

Epidemiology, risk factors and antimicrobial profile of Vulvovaginal Candidiasis (VVC): A study among women in the central region of Saudi Arabia

D. Venugopal et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of VVC, potential risk factors, and antifungal susceptibility in the central region of Saudi Arabia. Results showed that 34% of samples were culture positive, with Candida albicans being the predominant species, and all isolates were sensitive to antifungals.

Chitosan coated catheters alleviates mixed species biofilms of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans

Durairajan Rubini et al.

Summary: Chitosan extracted from marine crab shells was successfully coated on urinary catheters, demonstrating effectiveness in inhibiting biofilm adherence and reducing virulence factors of the pathogens. Additionally, EC could downregulate virulence genes of the pathogens in biofilms, both mono and mixed species.

Prevalence of vulvovaginal candidiasis in Brazil: A systematic review

Gabriela Correa Carvalho et al.

Summary: Vulvovaginal candidiasis (CVV) is the second leading cause of vaginitis in the world, with an estimated prevalence of 18% in Brazil. Studies show higher prevalence in the South and Southeast regions compared to the North and Northeast regions, with no data available for the Midwest region. Further epidemiological studies are recommended to fully understand the disease profile in Brazil.
