Extended Study of Fiber Optic-Based Humidity Sensing System Performance for Sewer Network Condition Monitoring

Bruno Rente et al.

Summary: This study reports an extended period of humidity monitoring at two locations in the sewer network operated by Sydney Water using a fiber optic network with Bragg Grating-based sensors. The system was designed to provide a long-term, low-cost, and reliable solution for monitoring humidity and temperature in harsh sewer environments. The results showed that the sensor system performed well, even after 20 months of continuous use, overcoming issues seen with conventional electrical sensors.

Fiber optic sensor designs and luminescence-based methods for the detection of oxygen and pH measurement

Jan Werner et al.

Summary: Optical and fiber optic techniques for chemical sensing have become popular in biomedical and industrial processes, with a focus on pH levels and oxygen concentration. Different optical platform designs and fabrication methods, along with the impact of fiber structures on sensor performance are discussed. Applications include challenging measurement environments where conventional sensors may not be suitable, due to the advantages of lightweight, ease of miniaturization, multiplexing capability, and low cost.
