Using high-pressure torsion to fabricate an Al-Ti hybrid system with exceptional mechanical properties

Aleksandra Bartkowska et al.

Summary: A novel hybrid material was fabricated from the Al-Ti system using high-pressure torsion, resulting in fine grains and high hardness properties. Microstructural observations showed intermetallic phases and mixing zones enriched in Ti, with microhardness measurements revealing values higher than in the HPT-processed bulk aluminium alloy.

Instability of a molybdenum layer under deformation of a CuMoCu laminate by high-pressure torsion

V. Tavakkoli et al.

Summary: In the study, it was found that during high-pressure torsion, the molybdenum layer loses planarity, leading to periodic folds and vortices, causing ruptures; a blocky substructure was formed in the molybdenum layer, while a significant fragmentation of the copper layer occurred; the proposed mathematical model, based on gradient plasticity theory, predicted the instability of the harder molybdenum layer.

Quantifying solid-state mechanical mixing by high-pressure torsion

Yan Beygelzimer et al.

Summary: High-Pressure Torsion (HPT) is presented as an effective method for mixing metals in the solid state, with a stirring efficacy index introduced to quantitatively describe the mixing process. It is found that mechanical mixing only occurs after a certain threshold shear strain, leading to an increase in the uniformity of metal distribution. Differences in stirring between solid metals and liquids are also elucidated.
