The study shows that the mode of simple shear achieved with special strengthening tools during the process of formation of surface nanostructure on 40Kh steel through mechanopulse treatment can lead to a decrease in grain size, as well as an increase in depth and microhardness of the strengthened layer due to improved conditions for nucleation and dislocation generation.
We study the influence of the mode of deformation caused by various strengthening tools in the process of formation of the surface nanostructure on 40Kh steel by mechanopulse treatment on the components of friction forces in the friction contact zone, structure, and physical and mechanical properties. It is shown that, as a result of realization of the mode of simple shear with the help of a special strengthening tool, the grain size decreases, whereas the depth and microhardness of the strengthened layer increase due to the improvement of the conditions of nucleation and generation of dislocations.
