Methods for the Evaluation of Corrosion-Hydrogen Degradation of Steels of Oil-and-Gas Pipelines

O. Zvirko et al.

Summary: The evaluation of in-service degradation of pipe steels under the corrosion-hydrogen influence involves mechanical, structural-fractographic, and electrochemical methods. Mechanical methods are used to assess brittle-fracture resistance, while structural and fractographic factors, as well as hydrogenation, play significant roles in steel microdamage development. Electrochemical methods can predict brittle-fracture resistance and susceptibility to hydrogen-assisted cracking by monitoring changes in polarization resistance and fracture surface potential.

Restoration of the Properties of Heat-Resistant Steel after Long-Term Operation in a Steam Turbine

O. Z. Student et al.

Summary: The study reveals that by optimizing the thermal treatment mode, it is possible to restore the hardness, strength, and plasticity parameters of the steel and significantly increase its impact toughness; There is a correlation between the impact toughness of the steel and grain size, which can be used for diagnosing changes in the metal's engineering state during operation.

Fractographic Signs of Gigacycle Fatigue and Hydrogenation of Heat-Resistant Steels after Long-Term Operation

O. D. Smiyan et al.

Summary: The study found that hydrogenation affects the mechanism of low-cycle fatigue fracture of the metal, while gigacycle fatigue fractures initiate at a certain depth rather than the surface. The simultaneous influence of hydrogen and gigacycle fatigue results in atypical rounded fragments on the fracture surface, exceeding the number of controlled shutdowns.
