Fluorescence enhancement of rhodamine B and fluorescein immobilized on optimized ZrO2 nano-porous films

Miao Zhu et al.

Summary: ZrO2 nano-porous films with different morphologies were prepared by anodic oxidation method, and then composite fluorescent films were obtained by immobilizing rhodamine B (RB) and fluorescein (FL) on the surface of ZrO2. The effects of ZrO2 morphology, loading amount of RB and FL, excitation wavelength, and FL/RB ratio on the fluorescence performance of the composite films and the FL-RB fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) system were studied. Results showed that the optimized ZrO2 nanoporous film significantly improved the fluorescence performance of RB and FL, with emission intensity increased by 4.5 and 5.7 times, respectively. The efficiency of FRET system on ZrO2 nano-porous film was significantly higher than that in aqueous solution.

Encoding microspheres based on fluorescence energy transfer between poly (phenylenevinylene) nanoparticles and rhodamine 6G

Lijuan Sun et al.

Summary: A strategy based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) was used to prepare encoded microspheres with PPV NPs as the donor and R6G as the acceptor, allowing for tuning the fluorescence intensity ratio between the two fluorophores. A layer of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin was coated onto the spheres to prevent leakage of fluorophores and provide amino reactive sites. This study demonstrates a general approach for the preparation of stable fluorescence-encoded microspheres and a protective layer with reactive sites.

Induced ion-pair formation/de-aggregation of rhodamine B octadecyl ester for anion optical sensing: Towards ibuprofen selective optical sensors

Brian Kaczmarczyk et al.

Summary: A novel method is explored to create anion selective nanostructural optodes without the need for selective ionophore, by precisely matching properties of analyte and receptor for optimal interaction. Careful balancing of composition of nanostructural probes allows fine tuning of linear response range to cover lower concentration range. The model analyte studied was ibuprofen, and optimized turn-on responses were obtained for concentration change within a specific range.

Ultrabright Fluorescent Polymeric Nanofibers and Coatings Based on Ionic Dye Insulation with Bulky Counterions

Anila Hoskere Ashoka et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the preparation of ultrabright fluorescent polymeric nanofibers and coatings by overcoming the ACQ problem with the concept of ionic dye insulation using bulky hydrophobic counterions. This approach increases fluorescence quantum yields of cationic dyes and leads to polymeric materials with improved brightness and stability against dye leakage.
