Researchers have successfully prepared cauliflower like cadmium oxide and cesium-doped CdO nanostructured films, and experimentally confirmed the decrease in the band gap energy of CdO structure upon Cs doping.
Cauliflower like structures has attracted a great research interest because of their novel and special morphology. Herein, cauliflower like cadmium oxide (CdO) and cesium (Cs)-doped CdO nanostructured films composed of nanocrystals were grown on glass substrates by spin coating method. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals that the CdO and Cs-doped CdO films show cubic phase. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images exhibited that formation of cauliflower like nanostructured films. The x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses results affirmed the presence of Cs in CdO films. Moreover, first principles calculations were carried out for pure CdO and Cs-doped CdO to understand the experimentally observed results. The density of states (DOS) and partial density of states (PDOS) calculations show that decrease in the band gap energy upon doping of Cs in the bulk CdO structure, which coincides with the experimental results.
