Metal-Free, Graphene Oxide-Based Tunable Soliton and Plasmon Engineering for Biosensing Applications

Seemesh Bhaskar et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a quest for auxiliary plasmonic materials with lossless properties by utilizing a unique plasmonic response from stratified high refractive index-graphene oxide and low refractive index-polymethyl methacrylate multistack. The platform achieved a zero-normal steering emission and directional graphene oxide plasmon-coupled emission, and showed potential for diverse biosensing applications. Experimental validation of the platform's superiority in achieving a low detection limit of human IFN-gamma was conducted, along with significant fluorescence emission enhancements on a lossless substrate using various nanoparticles, paving the way for unique light-matter interactions for next-generation plasmonic and biomedical technologies.

Synergistic coupling of titanium carbonitride nanocubes and graphene oxide for 800-fold fluorescence enhancements on smartphone based surface plasmon-coupled emission platform

Seemesh Bhaskar et al.

Summary: The integration of high refractive index dielectric TiCN nanocubes and plasmonic Ag nanofilms, with or without a graphene oxide nanolayer, resulted in significantly enhanced surface plasmon-coupled emission (SPCE) with sharp directionality and polarization. The obtained fluorescence enhancements showed excellent correlation with luminosity values obtained using smartphone-based SPCE platform, indicating potential for sensing applications and exploration of novel nanomaterials with 2-dimensional plasmonic materials.

Seemesh Bhaskar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the unique abilities of a thermo-migratively assembled Soret nano-assembly to trap electromagnetic fields and achieve metal-metal, metal-graphene, and metal-dielectric resonances. The Soret colloids of silver metal show significant fluorescence enhancements and can be tailored for highly directional emission enhancements. Furthermore, these multifunctional sorets have been successfully utilized for mobile phone-based detection of environmentally relevant Cu2+ ions and dye degradation for environmental remediation.
