Effect of HCl treatment on physico-chemical properties and photocatalytic performance of Fe-TiO2 nanotubes for hexavalent chromium reduction and dye degradation under visible light

Zulakha Zafar et al.

Summary: Fe2O3/TNT composite foil was prepared by combining anodization with the hydrothermal method, with iron particles accumulating on the surface restricting the photocatalytic reaction. XPS analysis confirmed the composition of the iron particles, and successful removal of surface accumulation of iron oxide particles with hydrochloric acid was achieved. Removal of surface accumulated iron oxide and adjusting pH in acidic medium resulted in a significant reduction of hexavalent chromium within a short period of time.
