A molecular dynamics study of grain boundary diffusion in MgO

Adriaan A. Riet et al.

Summary: As temperature increases, grain boundary structure becomes more disordered, while it becomes more ordered as pressure increases. Grain boundary diffusivity approaches melt values with increasing temperature, and decreases sharply with increasing pressure before gradually increasing. At extreme conditions relevant to the Earth's core-mantle boundary, diffusion is remarkably slow, indicating less efficient grain boundary transport compared to lower pressures and temperatures.

Size- and strain rate-dependence of nickel and Ni-Co micropillars with varying stacking fault energy

Yuan Xiao et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of stacking fault energy on the size effect in Ni-Co solid solution micropillars, revealing a decrease in stacking fault energy with an increase in Co content up to 50%. All Ni-Co micropillars exhibit consistent size effect trends, with activation volume increasing with grain size/pillar size.

Investigation on the optical and electrical properties of undoped and Sb-doped SnO2 nanowires obtained by the VLS method

I. M. Costa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of Sb doping on the optical and electrical properties of SnO2 nanowires obtained by the VLS method. The incorporation of Sb leads to significant changes in the absorption edge and resistivity of the nanowires, as well as a metal-insulator transition in the material.

Nanomechanical behavior of single taper-free GaAs nanowires unravelled by in-situ TEM mechanical testing and molecular dynamics simulation

Zhilin Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties and fracture mechanisms of GaAs nanowires under tensile stress, revealing that they deform elastically overall until sudden brittle fracture at 3.79% strain. Experimental results show fracture strength and elastic modulus of 4.0 and 109.5 GPa, respectively, which are much smaller than previous compression-based reports.

A. H. A. Elmekawy et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the investigation of the magnetic properties of hexagonally ordered iron nanowire arrays electrodeposited into anodic alumina templates. The increase in coercivity with nanowire length is well described by a model of interacting wires, likely magnetized by a vortex domain wall mechanism.
