Effect of Gas Pressure on the Formation Mechanism of Welds Based on Local Dry Underwater Welding

Leigang Han et al.

Summary: The study found that proper gas pressure in the micro drainage cover can improve the welding process and formation of underwater welds during local dry underwater MIG welding experiments, while excessive gas pressure can lead to worse welding results. High-speed photography of arc combustion and metal transfer under different gas pressure revealed that the most ideal conditions were both 0.2 MPa of the shielding gas pressure and drainage gas pressure at a water depth of 20 cm.

Guidance for Material Selection Based on Static and Dynamic Mechanical Properties at Sub-Zero Temperatures

Moritz Braun et al.

Summary: Research has shown that the effect of temperature on material behavior needs to be considered for ships and offshore structures operating in Arctic regions. Although fatigue strength has been observed to increase at sub-zero temperatures, data in this area are scarce and the effects of steel strength and welding type on fatigue strength changes are unknown.

MAG Welding Process with Micro-Jet Cooling as the Effective Method for Manufacturing Joints for S700MC Steel

Tomasz Wegrzyn et al.

Summary: Advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) steels are challenging to weld due to the martensitic structure with coarse ferrite and bainite, leading to cracking in the heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld. Using micro-jet cooling technology for welding could potentially improve the microstructure of the weld metal deposit, making it a promising process for welding S700MC steel.Testing through tensile, fatigue, bending, metallographic analysis, and non-destructive measurements was carried out to examine the mechanical properties of the welded joint, with results shown in Wohler's S-N curves.

A review of fatigue test data on weld toe grinding and weld profiling

Moritz Braun et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of weld toe grinding and weld profiling on the fatigue strength of welded joints and the main influencing factors. Experimental results show that improvements in fatigue strength correspond well with current guidelines, and a new S-N curve slope of m = 4 is recommended.

Underwater Laser Welding of Pure Ti: Oxidation and Hardening Behaviors

Manlelan Luo et al.

Summary: The study found that using air as an assisting gas for dry underwater laser welding can result in complete and glossy welds, with minimal impact on the cross-section morphology of the welds in the underwater environment. Additionally, rapid cooling from water and localized oxidation can lead to weld hardening, but adjusting welding parameters can reduce weld hardness.
