Variation and Uncertainty of Microplastics in Commercial Table Salts: Critical Review and Validation

Hee-Jee Lee et al.

Summary: The variation and uncertainty of microplastic data in table salt caused by different analytical methods and the validation experiment suggest that unverified data from different methods may lead to serious errors and undermine the ability to quantify human risk. The study also shows that after size correction, the intake of microplastics through diet may be significantly higher than previously estimated.

Microplastic Spectral Classification Needs an Open Source Community: Open Specy to the Rescue!

Win Cowger et al.

Summary: Open Specy is a free software solution for spectral classification, offering users the ability to view, process, identify, and share microplastic spectra. It stands out as the only open source software with a community library, and provides a range of tools for spectrum processing to build a diverse reference library for microplastics.

Solvent-Based Elimination of Organic Matter from Marine-Collected Plastics

Amaia Mendoza et al.

Summary: The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of different solvents for removing organic matter and biofouling from plastic litter extracted from the Spanish Atlantic and Mediterranean coast. Results indicate that hydrogen peroxide is the most effective solvent without causing damage to the plastic samples.
