Scale sensitivity of environmental effects on the temporal beta diversity of fishes in tropical coastal lagoons

Ellen Martins Camara et al.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of disentangling multilevel sources of variation in understanding diversity patterns in high-variability environments. The investigation into scale sensitivity of short-term environmental effects on temporal beta diversity of fishes in tropical coastal lagoons revealed that abundance gradients played a significant role, potentially due to random changes in abundances of rare marine-origin species. Additionally, the study found that freshwater and marine influences were primarily represented by short-term effects of salinity changes at local and zone levels, and tide height and accumulated rainfall at lagoon level.

Macrofauna communities across a seascape of seagrass meadows: environmental drivers, biodiversity patterns and conservation implications

Ivan F. Rodil et al.

Summary: Seagrass meadows play a key role in enhancing biodiversity by influencing the structure and diversity of macrofauna communities. The variability of macrobenthic communities in seagrass meadows is regulated by sedimentary and macrophyte factors. The increase in abundance and diversity of seagrass-associated macrofauna with greater habitat complexity attributes suggests the importance of conservation efforts on various types of meadows.
