Tracing the paleo-methane seepage activity over the past 20,000 years in the sediments of Qiongdongnan Basin, northwestern South China Sea

Xiaoming Miao et al.

Summary: This study established an alternative index system for identifying paleo-methane seepage and successfully identified three methane release events. The occurrence of methane seepage led to the formation of authigenic carbonate minerals and pyrite, as well as changes in the redox environment and enrichment of certain elements.
