Characterization of bacteriophage VVP001 and its application for the inhibition of Vibrio vulnificus causing seafood-borne diseases

Hye-Jin Kim et al.

Summary: The bacteriophage VVP001 was identified as a potential natural food preservative and biocontrol agent against V. vulnificus, with stability at a wide range of temperatures and pH levels suitable for food applications. In vitro studies showed VVP001 effectively inhibited the growth of V. vulnificus, and genome analysis indicated the absence of genes encoding toxins or virulence factors essential for food safety. Application of VVP001 to contaminated abalone samples and in vivo mouse survival tests further demonstrated its ability to protect against high mortality rates.
