Pollen analysis using multispectral imaging flow cytometry and deep learning

Susanne Dunker et al.

Summary: Pollen identification and quantification are essential tasks in various fields like pollination, paleobotany, allergology, honey analysis, and forensics. This study introduces a novel method using multispectral imaging flow cytometry and deep learning, which proved to deliver high accuracy and fast measurement for pollen analysis. By training a convolutional neural network classifier on a large dataset, the approach can accurately identify and differentiate pollen from different plant species, even those that are difficult to distinguish using traditional microscopy.

A single honey proteome dataset for identifying adulteration by foreign amylases and mining various protein markers natural to honey

Tomas Erban et al.

Summary: Honey adulteration is a common problem that may involve the addition of foreign amylases to compensate for lowered enzyme activity, with a study identifying Aspergillus niger, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and/or Bacillus licheniformis amylases in four honey samples. The research demonstrates the utility of proteomics approach employing LC-MS/MS for detecting adulteration and evaluating honey quality, as well as providing curated sequence databases for reference and identification of natural honey markers.
