Carvedilol prevents pancreatic β-cell damage and the development of type 1 diabetes in mice by the inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines, NF-κB, COX-2, iNOS and oxidative stress

Keyvan Amirshahrokhi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that carvedilol has significant protective effects against pancreatic beta-cell damage and the development of T1D by reducing inflammatory and oxidative mediators. Treatment with carvedilol led to decreased blood glucose levels, diabetes incidence, insulitis, and increased levels of antioxidants in the pancreatic tissue. Moreover, carvedilol inhibited the expression of inflammatory modulators and cytokines while promoting anti-inflammatory cytokine production.
