Forensic significance of intracardiac heme oxygenase-1 expression in acute myocardial ischemia

Yumi Kuninaka et al.

Summary: HO-1 showed significantly higher expression in the hearts of AIHD cases compared to non-AIHD cases, indicating its potential as a valuable marker for diagnosing AIHD in forensic pathology. Myoglobin pallor regions and leukocyte infiltration did not show significant differences between the two groups.

Immunohistochemical analysis of thrombomodulin expression in myocardial tissue from autopsy cases of ischemic heart disease

Takeshi Kondo et al.

Summary: Thrombomodulin is a glycoprotein that is expressed on vascular endothelial cells and acts as an anticoagulant by interacting with thrombin. The study found upregulated thrombomodulin expression in areas of myocardial remodeling, suggesting endothelial proliferation, as well as diffusion of thrombomodulin in necrotic myocardium as a marker of endothelial injury. In a mouse model of acute myocardial infarction, similar findings were observed, indicating the potential use of thrombomodulin immunostaining in the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease in forensic pathology.
