Reaction paths of methane activation and oxidation of surface intermediates over NiO on Ceria-Zirconia catalysts studied by In-situ FTIR spectroscopy

Yimeng Lyu et al.

Summary: This study investigates methane activation over NiO/Ce0.82Zr0.18O2 catalysts synthesized by combustion synthesis using in-situ IR spectroscopy. Various experiments, including XRD, H-2-TPR, pyridine adsorption, and FTIR spectroscopy, were conducted to assess the properties and oxygen speciation of the catalyst. It was found that tuning the reducibility and Lewis acidity of the catalyst can improve the selectivity to alkoxy intermediates, which has practical implications for future research.

Selective Oxidation of Methane to Methanol over Ceria-Zirconia Supported Mono and Bimetallic Transition Metal Oxide Catalysts

Yimeng Lyu et al.

Summary: The research focuses on synthesizing ceria-zirconia supported mono and bi-metallic transition metal oxide clusters by dry impregnation, revealing the nature of the catalysts through various characterization techniques. Direct oxidation of methane to methanol is achieved, with methoxy species identified as a key intermediate for methanol production.

Pore Blocking by Phenolates as Deactivation Path during the Cracking of 4-Propylphenol over ZSM-5

Michael J. Stellato et al.

Summary: The cracking of propyl side chains from 4-propylphenol has been studied on a commercial ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst, with the decline in conversion being delayed by co-feeding water. The main cause of deactivation in the absence of water is identified as chemisorbed phenolates. Regardless of the presence of water, monoaromatics and polyaromatic species are formed during the reaction process. Comprehensive characterization of the spent catalysts suggests a combination of deactivation processes including hindering diffusion and the formation of polyaromatic coke.
