Emerging organic compounds in European groundwater

S. Y. Bunting et al.

Summary: The emergence of organic compounds in European groundwater is a growing area of research. Despite the formalisation of a voluntary groundwater watch list, there has been no systematic review of groundwater occurrence data in Europe. The aim in Europe is to develop a unified strategy for the classification and prioritisation of organic compounds to be monitored in groundwater.

Adsorption process of naproxen onto peanut shell-derived biosorbent: important role of n-π interaction and van der Waals force

Fatma Tomul et al.

Summary: The study found that the biosorbent has a high adsorption capacity for the naproxen drug, mainly driven by van der Waals force and n-pi interaction. It was also observed that the n-pi interaction is less effective when the carbonyl groups on peanut shells are oxidized into carboxylic groups.

Composition optimization of activated carbon-iron oxide nanocomposite for effective removal of Cr(VI)ions

Jaskiran Kaur et al.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposites of activated carbon and iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized in different mass ratios and evaluated for Cr(VI) ion removal. The optimized composition of the nanocomposite showed efficient removal of Cr(VI) ions and environmentally friendly characteristics. The magnetic properties and reducing characteristics of activated charcoal made the nanocomposites effective for Cr(VI) ion removal, magnetic separation, and regeneration.

Enhanced adsorption of congo red from aqueous solution using chitosan/hematite nanocomposite hydrogel capsule fabricated via anionic surfactant gelation

Godfred Ohemeng-Boahen et al.

Summary: The study developed chitosan/hematite nano-composite hydrogel capsules for the removal of Congo red dye, showing high Langmuir adsorption capacity and strong affinity for the dye molecules. The adsorption process involves both physisorption and chemisorption, with pH dependence and excellent potential for wastewater treatment.
