Relative instantaneous reproduction number of Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant with respect to the Delta variant in Denmark

Summary: The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 has spread rapidly across the globe, with 758 confirmed cases in Denmark. Based on Danish data, the effective reproduction number of Omicron is estimated to be 3.19 times higher than that of the Delta variant. It is expected that by December 28, 2021, over 95% of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Denmark will be caused by the Omicron variant.

Summary: The SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617 Delta variant, first identified in India in 2020, has become dominant in some regions and is spreading to many countries. This variant shows resistance to certain monoclonal antibodies and antibodies in convalescent sera, as well as reduced neutralization by some COVID-19 vaccines. Administration of two doses of the vaccine is needed for a neutralizing response against the Delta variant.

Protection of BNT162b2 Vaccine Booster against Covid-19 in Israel

Summary: After receiving a third dose of the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine, Israeli residents aged 60 and above who had previously received two doses of the vaccine saw significantly lower rates of confirmed Covid-19 infection and severe illness compared to those who did not receive a booster shot, indicating the effectiveness of the booster dose in reducing infection and severe illness.
