Mechanical, corrosion, and wear properties of biomedical Ti-Zr-Nb-Ta-Mo high entropy alloys

Nengbin Hua et al.

Summary: The study on TixZrNbTaMo high entropy alloys revealed excellent properties in hardness, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, with improvement in wear resistance in phosphate buffer saline solution as the titanium content decreases. The Ti0.5ZrNbTaMo alloy showed the highest corrosive wear resistance among the four HEAs due to its superior mechanical properties and chemical stability.

Method for tribological experiment to study scuffing initiation on AISI 52100 steel and hard ceramic coatings

Kelly Jacques et al.

Summary: This study used a high-frequency reciprocating tribometer to determine experimental parameters for inducing material scuffing, finding that the best results were achieved with perpendicular grinding lay and alumina counterface. The effectiveness of protective coatings in inhibiting scuffing initiation was also evaluated using a load progression from 1 N to 18 N.

Deformation and tribological behavior of ductile refractory high-entropy alloys

Maryam Sadeghilaridjani et al.

Summary: Refractory high-entropy alloys are promising structural materials for high temperature applications, but their high temperature deformation behavior and tribological response are still not well understood. This study evaluated the temperature dependence of strain rate sensitivity and wear behavior for two refractory high-entropy alloys, HfNbTiZr and HfNbTaTiZr. Results showed that HfNbTaTiZr had higher hardness, strength, and lower strain rate sensitivity compared to HfNbTiZr, and wear rate for both alloys increased with sliding cycle frequency and temperature, but decreased at higher temperatures due to different wear mechanisms.

A Review of the Latest Developments in the Field of Refractory High-Entropy Alloys

Muthe Srikanth et al.

Summary: Refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs) are unique due to their high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance, potentially replacing Ni-based superalloys. Various manufacturing processes and alloying elements affect the properties of RHEAs.
