In the great pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis), two stressors that individually enhance memory in combination block memory formation

Romina Soudavari et al.

Summary: This study found that individual exposure to stressors can enhance long-term memory formation in great pond snails, but the combination of two stressors can block this formation. By experimenting with different conditions, researchers also discovered that hot crayfish effluent and room temperature effluent have different effects on LTM formation.

What can we teach Lymnaea and what can Lymnaea teach us?

Veronica Rivi et al.

Summary: This review discusses the advantages of using freshwater snail Lymnaea stagnalis as a model to study the neural basis of learning and memory, exploring both what can be taught to Lymnaea and what Lymnaea can teach us. It highlights the potential of using snails as animal models for neuroscience translational research.

The temperature sensitivity of memory formation and persistence is altered by cold acclimation in a pond snail

Maria Fernell et al.

Summary: The study showed that inbred, laboratory-reared Lymnaea stagnalis can perform behaviors in cold environments and are capable of aerial respiration in winter. Long-term memory in these snails can be extended for at least 4 weeks after training in cold conditions. Exposure to 4 weeks of cold can make the snails resistant to the cold block procedure, explaining why freshly collected snails are resistant to it.
