Stimulation of neural stem cell differentiation by circularly polarized light transduced by chiral nanoassemblies

Aihua Qu et al.

Summary: Chiral photons can accelerate neural stem cells differentiation into neurons by engaging with DNA-bridged chiral assemblies of gold nanoparticles, resulting in improved conversion efficiency. The light-induced mechanical deformation of actin nanofibres at a frequency of 50 Hz plays a key role in stimulating the differentiation process. Additionally, circularly polarized light following a polarity-optimized protocol has shown promising results in reducing amyloid plaque formation in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Enhanced optical asymmetry in supramolecular chiroplasmonic assemblies with long-range order

Jun Lu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the limitations of optical asymmetry in chiral assemblies of plasmonic nanoparticles can be overcome by long-range organization of nanoparticles, similar to liquid crystals. This long-range order in helical assemblies enhances optical asymmetry by reducing scattering and activating energy states with antiparallel orientation of dipoles.

Ultrasmall Copper (I) Sulfide Nanoparticles Prevent Hepatitis B Virus Infection

Xiao Guo et al.

Summary: The study synthesized 4 +/- 0.5 nm copper (I) sulfide nanoparticles with chiroptical property to selectively cleave HBV core antigen under light at 808 nm, effectively blocking HBV assembly and preventing infection. The nanoparticles specifically bound with HBcAg and reduced intracellular HBcAg concentration, leading to decreased levels of HBsAg and HBV DNA in HBV transgenic mice. The results demonstrate the potential of nanomedicine in controlling HBV and providing new tools for viral infection.

Long- and short-ranged chiral interactions in DNA-assembled plasmonic chains

Kevin Martens et al.

Summary: The study confirms complex chiral optical fields in complex metal structures. The experiment demonstrates that by using DNA origami, placing an achiral nanosphere between a pair of distant gold nanorods arranged in a chiral fashion can achieve chiral transfer and observe enhanced circular dichroism signals.

Improved Reactive Oxygen Species Generation by Chiral Co3O4 Supraparticles under Electromagnetic Fields

Xiuxiu Wang et al.

Summary: Chiral Co3O4 supraparticles (SPs) were fabricated with a significant g-factor and paramagnetic performance for treating thromboembolism under an electromagnetic field. In vitro experiments showed that d-SPs had stronger thrombolytic ability compared to l-SPs, leading to an enhanced survival rate in thrombosis model mice. Mechanism study revealed that d-SPs produced higher levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under MF due to chiral-induced spin selectivity effects.
