Promoting helpful attention and interpretation patterns to reduce anxiety and depression in young people: weaving scientific data with young peoples' lived experiences

Jennifer Y. F. Lau et al.

Summary: Anxiety and depression often stem from maladaptive cognitive patterns in youth, making it essential to promote adaptive cognitive patterns as part of treatment and prevention. Different therapeutic techniques, including cognitive bias modification training and guided instructions, were compared, with each showing strengths and weaknesses in altering attention and interpretation patterns to reduce symptoms. Feedback from young people suggests that combining complimentary techniques within multi-pronged toolboxes to develop resilient thinking patterns in youth is empowering.
