Wave-based analysis of the cut-on frequency of curved acoustic black holes

Jae Yeon Lee et al.

Summary: In this study, a wave-based theoretical method is proposed to investigate the cut-on frequency of a curved ABH. The cut-on frequency increases almost linearly in proportion to the curvature in arc ABHs, and decreases with increasing gap distance in spiral ABHs.

Semi-analytical model of an acoustic black hole piezoelectric bimorph cantilever for energy harvesting

Jie Deng et al.

Summary: An acoustic black hole termination can enhance the energy harvesting capabilities of a piezoelectric bimorph cantilever. A semi-analytical approach is proposed to characterize performance and allows for efficient parametric analysis of different system configurations. The method is a valuable tool for designing ABH energy harvesting devices.

Thermal imaging of vibrational energy dissipated in a 2D acoustic black hole pit

Thomas Durand-Texte et al.

Summary: An Acoustic Black Hole (ABH) is an effective method for passively damping flexural vibrations in plates. By gradually reducing the thickness and increasing the amplitude of vibrations through a decreasing local wavelength, a trapping effect occurs in the central area where visco-elastic coatings efficiently dissipate localized energy. The role of the constraining layer of visco-elastic material in the efficiency of the ABH is shown experimentally.

A vibration absorber based on two-dimensional acoustic black holes?

Hongli Ji et al.

Summary: Acoustic black hole structures are gaining attention as passive damping techniques for vibration and noise suppression due to their easy implementation and broad wave focusing and energy dissipation properties. The addition of a two-dimensional circular ABH-based dynamic vibration absorber to existing structures can effectively reduce vibration, with simulation results and analyses identifying two dominant mechanisms governing the physical processes.
