Tsvetan Zahariev et al.

Summary: This study investigated the photophysical processes of Tb (phen)(2)(NO3)(3) complex from UV excitation to luminescence in the visible region, revealing the characteristics of the excited states and energy transfer mechanisms. The complex nature of singlet and triplet excited states, as well as the importance of vibro-electronic contributions to the excitation energy, were demonstrated. Sensitization through the suitable antenna chromophore phen was found to result in a high luminescent quantum yield of 13%, indicating efficient energy transfer mechanisms.

Advances in anion binding and sensing using luminescent lanthanide complexes

Samantha E. Bodman et al.

Summary: Luminescent lanthanide complexes have been actively studied as selective anion receptors for the past two decades, offering unique photophysical properties that are valuable for anion sensing in biological media. By careful design of organic ligands, stable Ln(III) complexes can be devised for rapid and reversible anion binding, providing a high spatial resolution required for biological imaging applications. Examples of luminescent Ln(III) receptors have been utilized to detect and quantify specific anions in biological media, monitor enzyme reactions in real-time, and visualize target anions with high sensitivity in living cells.
