Scaling parameter of the lethal effect of mammalian cells based on radiation-induced OH radicals: effectiveness of direct action in radiation therapy

Tamon Kusumoto et al.

Summary: A new criterion DABBLE is proposed to measure the contribution of direct action for cell killing induced by C ions, showing a monotonic increase with linear energy transfer up to 140 keV/mu m. By comparing survival curves, the difference between direct and indirect action can be discriminated. The trend of DABBLE correlates with the relative biological effectiveness of indirect action over time.
