Effects of dietary Bacillus subtilis supplementation and calcium levels on performance and eggshell quality of laying hens in the late phase of production

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the effects of dietary Bacillus subtilis supplementation and calcium levels on performance, eggshell quality, intestinal morphology, and CALB1 mRNA level of laying hens in the late phase of production. Results showed that increasing dietary calcium level from 3.5% to 4.5% and adding Bacillus subtilis enhanced intestinal calcium absorption, improved eggshell quality, and reduced feed conversion ratio in older laying hens. The combination of 4.0% calcium level and Bacillus subtilis supplementation was found to be most effective in enhancing eggshell quality.

Molecular distribution and localization of extracellular calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) and vitamin D receptor (VDR) at three different laying stages in laying hens (Gallus gallus domesticus)

Qianru Hui et al.

Summary: The extracellular calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) and vitamin D receptor (VDR) play important roles in regulating calcium mobilization, absorption, and homeostasis, potentially being therapeutic targets for osteoporosis in laying hens. The study found that CaSR and VDR were widely expressed throughout the body of laying hens, especially in the intestine, tibia, and shell gland. The expression levels of CaSR and VDR in different tissues were not significantly affected by the different laying stages.

Effects of Clostridium butyricum on growth performance, metabonomics and intestinal microbial differences of weaned piglets

Jing Liang et al.

Summary: The study found that feeding piglets with C. butyricum did not significantly affect their growth performance or incidence of diarrhea during the experimental period. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequencing results showed that the CB group had significantly increased microbial diversity compared to the NC group. Furthermore, the addition of C. butyricum led to significant changes in fecal metabolites, particularly involving pathways related to citrulline, dicarboxylic acids, branched-chain amino acids, and tryptophan metabolism.
