Stress and the Surgical Resident in the COVID-19 Pandemic

Caitlin Collins et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the training experience of surgical residents in terms of reduced operative exposure. While senior residents tend to work more shifts, they are not more likely to have higher risk perception scores for contracting COVID-19, but they do tend to have higher levels of anxiety. Residents are more concerned about the health of loved ones than their own risk of contracting COVID-19.

E. Bontempi

Summary: The COVID-19 infection appeared in Italy in February 2020 and spread rapidly across Europe. Despite theories of pollution-to-human transmission, the lower infection cases in Italy compared to other European countries can be attributed to more effective policies in limiting virus spread. It is crucial to consider imposed restrictions and public compliance to effectively combat the pandemic.
