Antifungal action and induction of resistance by β-aminobutyric acid against Penicillium digitatum to control green mold in orange fruit

Elsherbiny A. Elsherbiny et al.

Summary: The study found that treatment with 125 mM BABA effectively inhibited the growth, germination, and elongation of Penicillium digitatum, while also increasing the relative electrical conductivity and malondialdehyde content in the mycelium. Additionally, BABA treatment at 125 mM led to a decrease in ergosterol content, as well as increased leakage of protein, sugar, and a reduction in total lipid content in the mycelia of P. digitatum. In orange fruit, BABA treatment at 125 mM significantly reduced disease incidence and severity, while enhancing the activity of defense-related enzymes.

Thyme oil treatment controls bacterial wilt disease symptoms by inducing antioxidant enzyme activity in Solanum tuberosum

Nashwa M. A. Sallam et al.

Summary: Thyme volatile oil (TVO) showed significant inhibitory effects on the growth of Ralstonia solanacearum, reducing the incidence of potato bacterial wilt and enhancing the activity of antioxidant enzymes in treated plants. POX and PAL activities can be used as biochemical markers for assessing biocontrol efficacy in controlling potato bacterial wilt.

Evaluation of the synergy between Schwanniomyces vanrijiae and propolis in the control of Penicillium digitatum on lemons

Kamal A. M. Abo-Elyousr et al.

Summary: The combination of Schwanniomyces vanrijiae and 3% ethanolic extracts of propolis (EEP) was found to effectively protect lemon fruits from green mold caused by Penicillium digitatum, with significantly reduced severity and incidence of the disease.

Control of green mold disease using chitosan and its effect on orange properties during cold storage

Hadeel M. M. Khalil Bagy et al.

Summary: Chitosan at different concentrations showed inhibitory effects against Penicillium digitatum on orange fruits. In vivo experiments demonstrated that 1% chitosan was the most effective in reducing disease severity and preserving fruit quality. Chitosan coatings of 0.5% and 1% were found to be more effective in inhibiting decay fungi compared to uncoated samples, preserving high quality of the fruits during storage.
